WEATHER FORECAST WASWRONG…WAHOO! The cold day with showers that was forecast on last night’s weather, never eventuated…it was GLORIOUS here today. And what a relief that was as I wanted to get on with some jobs in the garden today!
I’ve done lots of work in my cottage garden and the vegetable garden didn’t really need anything done today…but I did do a bit of maintenance of my tomatoes:
- pinched out all the laterals (for the first time this season)
- pulled off some leaves that looked like that might be early blight...
- spray the tomatoes with Yates Copper Oxychloride (hopefully this will combact the blight!)
- tied them all to their 2.4 metre stakes using old tights of mine (for the past two years, I've used old leaves from cabbage trees as an 'eco-alternative'...but they cut into the tomato stems)
- and the best thing: I spotted some tiny little flower buds on a few plants
This is really great news as there are so many bees buzzing about in the garden at the moment…as soon as the flowers open, the bees will be there to pollinate the flowers and then we’ll have the lovely tomatoes appear.
Oh I can’t wait to eat my first tomatoes….it will be the cherry tomatoes that we get to eat first of course. The smell of the leaves was driving me crazy today and making my tummy rumble!
