Oh I just love harvesting delicious vegetables from my garden! Tonight I harvested our firstbroad beans of the season, along with spinach, chives, mint and parsley. I made my favourite risotto: Broad Bean & Bacon Risotto. I have been waiting to make this dish again for almost a year…if anyone wants the recipe – let me know…it is utterly divine.
WHAT A SELECTION!
I only ever pick what we need. That way there is never any waste and things stay fresher. There is so much choice at this time of the year when it comes to harvesting different vegetables and sometimes it is really hard to decide upon what we will eat – everything is just so good. It is much nicer popping out to the garden and selecting fresh vegetables from out there, rather than finding some lifeless vegies in the fridge and trying to resurrect them and create a sensational meal…
HEALTH BENEFITS & BUG BATTLES
We’ve stopped buying virtually all vegetables from the supermarket over the past year, and neither myself nor my husband have been ill for almost a year…no colds, no flu, absolutely nothing. We were 100% organic in our garden initially when we started our garden three years ago, but I’ve given up with slugs and snails as I couldn’t persevere solely with organic remedies in the battle against these bugs. So Yates Blitzem is pretty much the only non-organic product I use. And I’m pleased to report that it is really helping this year and our plants are a lot more healthier and vigorous as a result as they’re not under constant attack from slugs and snails.
But it’s not just our physical beings that are benefitting from all this great produce we’re growing, but gardening is such a great thing for our mental well-being. It is the best cure for stress and I cannot begin to outline how great it makes us feel.
