Time to plant out more seedlings! Today I’m planting out three broccoli seedlings which areYates Broccoli – Summer Green. I planted the seeds on 15/10/12, so they’ve been a little slow to grow and unfortunately three of the seeds didn’t germinate…but nevertheless, I don’t want six broccoli heads all ready to harvest at the same time anyway!
I’ve also got two celery seedlings to plant. These are Yates Celery – Green Crunch and I planted these seeds inside on my windowsill on 01/09/12. They’ve taken an extremely long time to get going and only two of the seedlings survived when I transplanted them about a month ago. I seem to have real problems with rust on my celery, so I’m going to use Yates Copper Oxychloride regularly on these plants. I have some more tiny celery seedlings that I hope to re-pot in a couple of weeks and fingers crossed they will be ready to plant out in a month or so.
I try to plant seeds every four to six weeks in order to ensure a continuous supply of vegetables. It only takes me about 10 minutes to plant out about 12 little punnets with six seeds in each and I think that it time well invested. The hardest thing is ensuring that slugs and snails don’t attack the little seedlings, but a sprinkle of Yates Blitzem helps ward them off!
