Wahoo! I’ve just harvested my first carrot of the season and it is a proper size and I can’t wait to eat it tonight! In the past, I think I’ve harvested them far too early, or I haven’t thinned them out or the soil hasn’t been the right conditions forcarrots and they have never really grown. But this one is perfect in my opinion!
This is a variety called Yates Carrot – Topweight. I have a couple of rows of this one and a couple of Yates Carrot – Egmont Gold. Will be interesting to see which grows best. I keep planting out successive rows every six weeks or so. So hopefully, I’ll never have to buy another carrot again now that I can finally grow them! Once germination occurred, I’ve pretty much done nothing other than thin them out….
Well, had better get going and cook dinner now…I’ve harvested another broccoli, more snow peas and some silverbeet to go with the carrot in a little stir-fry to accompany some marinated chicken. Nom, nom!
