Catastrophe struck over Labour Weekend and the glass window I had propped up on my cold frame, smashed into hundreds of pieces in a really strong wind. Alas! This meant shards of glass through all my chilli, courgette, andcucucmber seedlings and that they had to move back inside whilst I sorted out the problem!
The original window was free from the tip shop and sat on top of an old concrete laundry tub that we found in our garden years ago. So a year later, another trip to the tip shop at Labour Weekend, and we found a similar window that even had hinges attached! My lovely husband nailed some old timber together to create frame around the concrete tub, screwed the window to it and I painted it up. (Should really have been painting the fence….)
It was a quick project with a great outcome and now I’m back in business, moving all my little seedlings out to the cold frame. In fact, this operates quite like a mini glass house…and it’s cost me a total of $5!
I would love a real glasshouse, but for the moment – this will suit me just fine! Having a cold frame for the past year has really helped with my vege and flower seedlings and I would be completely lost without it! In fact, this works so well…I might have to find another tub and make another one. Now I need to get on to getting rid of all those succulents in the pic…..not really my style…
