SNEAKY SPARROWS - 16 October 2012

My biggest problem in my garden this year is not aphids, slugs or caterpillars…but sparrows and blackbirds. I just caught a whole bunch of them flicking out the compost from all my garden beds including this one where all my little courgetteplants and a couple of late broccoli are planted. Clearly they are hunting for worms. We seem to have this little daily battle where they flick the compost and mulch out and I put it back again…
They also gobble up the ends of my snow peaseach day and I sprinkled some cayenne pepper on those which did the trick for about a week…so maybe I should try that again. I really don’t want to hang CD’s in the garden, but does someone have any smart ideas to ward of the birds?
It is an absolutely stunning day here in Wellington today. So I hope to get out in the garden this afternoon for some fresh air and maybe resolve this little bird issue for once and for all…
