Time to give all my veges a liquid feed. I makecomfrey tea from comfrey grown in the garden after reading about a nun who just swears by it in an excellent book called ‘Tips from your Nana’.
And whatsmore, my comfrey has just started waking up from hibernation, so I’ll have lots of leaves to harvest soon!
Comfrey tea is so easy to make:
- Take some comfrey leaves and place in a bottle or big bucket with a lid (if you have lots of leaves). I use old 1 litre juice bottles.
- Fill up your bottle or bucket with water and wait until the leaves have rotted. (This usually takes about four or five weeks).
- Strain through a pantihose and then dillute with water usually 1:5 and spray on garden at weekly or monthly intervals depending on the plants. (I spray my lettuces weekly and they just love it!)
- One thing to note: this stuff can get really pongy so I try not to breathe when I'm mixing it up!
I actually mix in some worm wees too from time to time. As we don’t have a worm farm yet, I have a friend who gives me some of hers. It is amazing to see how quickly things grow when they’ve had a big feed. Sometimes I also add a dash of Yates Fish Emulsion too…just to spice it up for the plants!
