CAN'T SOW SO I'LL SEW – 16 September 2012

So the weather was a little misleading this morning and now it is pouring down! Not such a bad thing, as it has meant that I have been able to sew my very own home-made polytunnel for my Yates Eggplant ‘Blacknite’ and Yates Capsicum ‘Giant Bell’.

I used the following materials:

  • bamboo stakes
  • old 20mm irrigation tubing
  • an old plastic matress cover
  • nylon cord

And this is how to make it:

  1. Space 6 bamboo stakes and poke them down into the ground.
  2. Sew three sleeves and thread the irrigation tube through.
  3. Sew two seams at each end and thread the nylon cord through.
  4. Bend the irrigation tube and slide it over the top of each of the bamboo stakes.
  5. Pull the nylon cord at each end like a drawstring, and tie it off.

And voilà: your very own polytunnel. I’m going to pop some seedlings in trays under here for the moment, but will plant out my eggplants and capsicums when they’re a bit bigger!
