LOVELY FREE COFFEE GRINDS - 24 September 2012

I am very lucky to receive three big bags ofcoffee grinds from my local café each week.  I usually collect them on Mondays and then put them into my compost and some straight on the garden.  It is full of nitrogen and considered as ‘green waste’ for the compost.  They’re great for worm farms too if you have one, as apparently the worms just love the coffee.  I haven’t got a worm farm as yet…that’s on the list!
It is an absolutely stunning day here in Wellington so I’m going to take a little break and get this coffee into the compost and spread a little around my snow peas, peas and beans (it helps ward off the nasty bugs too).  Such a great way to use something which would otherwise end up as landfill.  Ask your local café what they do with the coffee grinds – could be a great way to get some extra goodness for your garden!
