Today I caught up with a friend and was in complete awe of her garden. Her leeks were enormous! I’ve never managed to grow leeks to ‘normal’ sizes so she shared her special secret with me:
- take some pony poo and pop it in a bucket that has a lid (an old 10 litre paint pail is perfect)
- fill up the bucket with water and leave it for a couple of days
- drain off the water through a sieve and spray this on the leeks
- use the excess gluggy poo in the garden by turning it over and mixing it into the soil
WARNING: apparently it is really stinky!
I have some pony poo down the back of the garden ready to go and I am going to try this out on my leeks and see how I go. This is something that my friend’s grandfather used to do and I’ve never heard of anyone using this technique before, but clearly it works! In this picture are two little leeks that she gave me (I didn’t want to take the big ones) and they were planted around the same time as mine that are planted out in this picture, and look at the difference!!!!!!!!! Hers are like monsters next to my little dwarfs!
Well – I’ve hit a milestone today…100 blogs…best I treat myself to an hour or so in the garden so I can keep on blogging until the close of this challenge! Some time in the garden is my reward for an insanely busy few weeks.
