Well I managed to squeeze in two hours of gardening today after a really busy day working. And much to my delight as I was about to head in doors…I saw two Yates Sweet Corn – Honeysweet had germinated!
I planted these out in peat pots 20 days ago and the seed packet said that germination took 6 – 10 days…so I had almost given up hope! Last year I had absolutely no success with germination, and I feared the same this year, but thought I’d just give it one more try. Two years ago, I had great success and a reasonable harvest of 5 cobs from each plant.
I just love using sweet corn raw in salads and pastas. I am ever so relieved that a couple have germinated (even though you have to squint really hard to see them!) Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that the other seeds will follow and germinate any day now!
